Your right to privacy protection under the Privacy Act 1988

Brisbane City Enterprises complies with the National Privacy Principles regarding the collection, use, disclosure and handling of personal information from individuals. This policy briefly details the practices we use to protect your privacy so that you can have confidence in how we manage the personal information you give to us.

When Do We Collect Personal Information?

Personal information is defined as any information that can be used to identify you. We collect personal information (including contact name, address, telephone number, occupation, email address, education and qualifications, payment arrangement, rates/fees, etc) in numerous circumstances. They include:

bullet Our professional dealings with new and existing clients.
bullet Applications for employment with or through BCE and its partners.
bullet Conducting surveys, including recruiting potential consultants for our database.
bullet Consultation with the community.

What Does BCE Do With Personal Information?

We may use personal information:

bullet To enable us to provide services to you, our clients and commercial partners.
bullet To communicate information to you about our services and potential business opportunities.
bullet For our internal administrative, planning, product development, and bid submission requirements.
bullet To consider the suitability of applicants for employment with us.
bullet Other business related activities.

We may disclose your personal information to organisations outside Australia if it is necessary for one of the purposes the information has been disclosed to us.

Brisbane City Enterprises Pty Ltd is majority owned by Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC) with Brisbane City Council holding a minority stake. BCE utilises the systems of SMEC in the day to day management of its business activities, including the SMEC CV database. CVs collected by BCE may be stored in the SMEC CV database and will be available for access by both BCE and SMEC personnel.

Apart from this sharing of information, your personal details are not, sold, rented or otherwise disclosed except if required by law or with your consent.

What Do We Do To Safeguard Personal Information?

We will take all reasonable steps to maintain the security of any personal information we receive. We will only keep your personal information when we consider it useful for BCE’s business activities related to the original purpose for which it was given by you.

Access and Correction

Individuals may access any personal information we hold about you at any time. If your personal information changes or you no longer want your details listed in our records and/or database, we will provide you with a way to correct, update or remove the personal data you supplied to BCE upon request.

Our website – www.bce.com.au – is operated by us and contains links to other sites operated by third parties. We take no responsibility for the privacy practices of these linked sites and will not be held responsible for the privacy policies of the organisations operating and/or managing these sites.

Note for Brisbane City Council Employees

Persons employed by Brisbane City Council (BCC) applying for employment, secondments, or other types of work with Brisbane City Enterprises (BCE) need to be aware that BCE can access their BCC employment records. Information contained in these records include pay details, employment history, contact details, and other information collected by the Human Resources division and divisional officers.

BCE will treat this information confidentially and use it only to the extent necessary to facilitate its business activities. No BCC employee information, other than that freely given for the purpose of engaging in BCE business practices, will be passed onto third party organisations or otherwise be accessible to non BCE personnel.
